Every year they light up the city during the colder winter months and like in any other European city the Christmas markets are a popular and unmissable end-of-year event. Christmas Markets 2021 in Madrid
1. Plaza Mayor Christmas Market
The Plaza Mayor Christmas market is the oldest and most famous Christmas market in Madrid. It is located in Madrid's Plaza Mayor, a major public space in the heart of Madrid. The market is part of Madrid's traditional history and was already there in the 19th century. You can expect a festive holiday atmosphere and more than 100 stalls selling nativity figures, toys and joke articles.
The Plaza Mayor Christmas Market will be open every day from 26th November 2021 to 31st December 2021, including Christmas Eve. The entry is free!

2. Gigantic Light Ball - Metropolis Building
From 26 November to 7 January 2022, you can find a gigantic 3D light ball just in front of the Metropolis Building in Madrid. The giant walk-through ball has a diameter of 12 metres and is fitted with 43,000 led lights. It is worth stopping by!

3. Joy to the World
Joy to the World is a Christmas event from 18 November to 5 January. It is organized by IFEMA MADRID, a well known organisation of trade fairs in Europe.
The Christmas village, an outdoor space of more than 12,000 square metres and 10,000 square metres inside Hall 3 at IFEMA MADRID, opens on 4th December 2021.
Shopping, gastronomy, entertainment, Christmas lights, shows and activities for the enjoyment - small children and adults, but also teenagers and young people can have a great time here and get themselves into the Christmas spirit.
A charmant Christmas market with stalls selling sweets, clothes and other articles related to Christmas awaits you. If you prefer activities, you can visit the ice-rink and slide, a Christmas merry-go-round as well as children’s workshops. Furthermore, you will find a Nativity scene, parades and a 35-metre-tall LED Christmas tree, one of the tallest in Europe.

4. Outdoor Christmas Lights for Street Decoration
Christmas decoration takes a huge place in the city. During the festive season you will find Christmas lighting everywhere in the city.
The lighting is created by renowned Spanish designers, architects and graphic designers. There are differences of the Christmas decoration in every neighborhood, for example there are different colors. But also the design patterns and shapes vary. Furthermore, you will find large Christmas trees in major squares.
The Christmas lighting takes place from 26th November 2021 through the first week in January (until 6th January). Every evening the lights will be turned on from 6 pm to 12 midnight, on 24th December and 5th January between 6pm and 3 am and on 31st December.
5. Christmas Light Bus Tour
If you do not like to walk through the city, you can also take the Christmas bus. The double-decker bus is called Naviluz and takes you on a 50-minute guided trip through the beautiful city center to discover the most beautiful outdoor Christmas decorations of Madrid.
The bus runs the whole day every 10 minutes between 6pm and 10:50pm between 26th November and 6th January. Don't forget to pre-book your ticket online here:👇🏻
